I’m not sure why the song “You Got Me Going in Circles” (by Friends of Distinction) came to mind when I saw this image. Maybe it’s because I was born in the late 70s.
But no, it did, but that’s not the point of this post. Instead, I wanted to post something on a product I have shot. Some may think product photography is easy… Not so much! Many factors need to be addressed - with lighting, reflection, and background, to name a few.
When it comes together, you get a pretty good image.
Why a Professional Headshot Matters More Than Ever
Before someone reads your résumé, visits your website, or learns about your experience, they may see your photo first.
In a world where first impressions often happen online, a professional headshot is more than just a nice picture—it’s an introduction to who you are.
Your Headshot Is Part of Your Personal Brand
Consider where your photo appears: LinkedIn, company websites, social media profiles, speaking engagements, professional directories, business cards, and marketing materials. Your headshot often becomes one of the most recognizable parts of your personal brand.
A strong headshot should communicate confidence, professionalism, and approachability while still feeling like you.
The goal isn't to make you look like someone else. The goal is to capture the best version of you.
Professional Doesn't Have to Mean Stiff
One of the biggest misconceptions about headshots is that they have to feel overly formal.
Today's professional headshots can be polished without being rigid. Depending on your profession and personality, your session might feature a traditional studio portrait, a relaxed lifestyle look, an environmental portrait in your workplace, or a combination of styles.
A great headshot photographer helps you find the right balance between professional and authentic.
A Good Headshot Builds Trust
People connect with people.
Whether you're a business owner, executive, entrepreneur, educator, creative professional, real estate agent, attorney, healthcare professional, or someone entering the job market, a quality photograph can make your online presence feel more personal.
When potential clients, employers, colleagues, or business partners see a professional image, it sends a simple message:
I take myself, my work, and how I present myself seriously.
When Should You Update Your Headshot?
If your current headshot is several years old, no longer looks like you, was cropped from another photograph, or doesn't reflect where you are professionally today, it may be time to update it.
Your headshot should represent the person someone will meet when you walk into the room.
Career changes are also a great reason for a new portrait. A promotion, new business, career transition, graduation, speaking opportunity, or website redesign can all be the perfect time to refresh your image.
Preparing for Your Headshot Session
You don't need to reinvent your wardrobe for a professional headshot completely. Start with clothing that fits well, makes you feel confident, and reflects how you normally present yourself professionally.
Consider bringing multiple options so your photographer can help determine what works best with the background, lighting, and overall style of the session.
Most importantly, don't worry about knowing how to pose.
That's part of the photographer's job.
Good direction can make a tremendous difference in your final images—from small adjustments in posture and expression to finding the angles that photograph you best.
It's More Than a Picture
A professional headshot is an investment in how you introduce yourself to the world.
The right photograph can help you look confident without appearing unapproachable, professional without feeling overly formal, and polished while still being authentic.
At Cammie Studios, we believe your headshot should do more than show what you look like. It should help communicate who you are.
Whether you're updating your LinkedIn profile, building a new website, preparing for your next career opportunity, or simply ready for an image that better represents you, your next professional introduction can begin with a great photograph.

Graduation season is always filled with excitement and nervousness. This shoot with Hailee was filled with just a good ole’ time. I needed to convey Hailes’s personality because I believe less posed images are better.
Styling the stylist! Working with creatives is always a good time. Bouncing ideas makes for a better final product. The reason is that you better understand the client’s vision and mix in your little twist.
Sometimes you want to do a little something different for graduation. Allison was on point. She was fierce, for sure!
One of the most enjoyable sports for me to watch and cover. The action is nonstop, and the pace doesn’t give a moment to think. But it’s worth every minute.
